Stop the World! I Want to Get Off!

Stop the World! I Want to Get Off!

Good morning, my Jesus!

What will it take to calm my monkey mind? The one that continually runs screaming down dark hallways, bumping into dead-ends and bouncing off walls like a crazed cartoon character? When will I learn to run the maze and make a B-line for the reward? When will I learn to run straight for the comfort and safety of your embrace?

The problems of the day roll around in my mind like marbles, bringing with them a sense of heaviness and dread. Fact is, there is a lot to be worried about in this world I see, but you have told me not to trust my eyes. You tell me no plague can come near my dwelling. You promise that you will never leave my side. You declare that you have overcome the world and that I will reign with you forever.

Yes sir.

I will live by faith. But how, when I see the wind and waves so bolsterous?

My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them,
and healing to their whole body.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:20-23 NLT

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Yes, Lord! The secret is to guard my heart! Proverbs and Paul give the same advice. When I listen to your voice, keep my eyes on your face and reach for your outstretched hand, YOU bring me safely into the boat, just as you did Peter when he stepped out into the water to meet you. When I tune into you and tune out the noise all around me, you silence the storm and I find peace. That little monkey can rest!

Aaaaaah!
